This straight hoe has been a somewhat effective ice-chipping tool.

This is compacted sleet – from the first storm two weeks ago. We got about 2 inches of sleet then – covered last weekend by 6 inches of snow- and while the snow has been shoveled off, the sleet is now compressed down to about 1 1/2″. It may look like snow, and some of it shaves off like sleet/snow, but much of the driveway is just solid ice.

Although temperatures have been above freezing this week, it takes a lot of sun and warmth to melt this stuff. And most of the driveway is in the shade. Today, temperatures are expected to be around 50. Yay!
