It’s been five weeks since the winter solstice. Light hangs on a little longer, warming the earth for a few more minutes each day.

Around town, snow is piled 7-feet-high in the corners of parking lots. The snow, as fresh as clean sheets when it fell last Saturday, is now diesel-covered and grimy.

Yards, smooth and even after the snow, are now riddled with boot prints. This was a good snowfall for kids. I’ve never seen more snowmen around town than with this storm. Six inches of quality snow helped kids build fairly large snowmen. Snowwomen? Snowwoman? Snowoman? It’s not even a word, is it?

With temperatures above freezing (yay), moisture seeps into the earth, watering the trees.
