Same world. Just colder, slower. Whiter.
Today, a Monday, the town moves again. Cars drive by, buses. The sanitation truck grinds and clangs as its mechanical arm lifts a gray trash bin from the curb.
The 8-year-old neighbor girl runs off to school, books tight in the crook of her left arm. A navy coat is half on, half off, its right sleeve bouncing against her back.
Monday morning in the country——–& seeing ALL THE WILD ANIMAL TRACKS AROUND OUR HOUSE & BARN IN THE SNOW THIS MORNING—MAKES ME THINK I NEED TO KEEP A GUN LOADED & KNOW WHERE IT IS!
No wonder our dog barked most of the night! I’m glad she was locked in her pen–she might of thought she was a big /as some of those tracks in the snow!
Wooh – snow! Something we don’t get much here any more. (Worse, we’re off skiing in the Pyrenees in a couple of weeks and there’s barely any there either…)
Big news here is that a big container ship ran aground off the south coast and has been steadily shedding everything from BMW motorbikes to barrels of wine and perfume. Despite stern policemen patrolling the beaches, hundreds of people are grabbing whatever they can carry away. It’s really rather sweet – particularly as all the crewmen were rescued.
Like the new format, Cheryl!
The Pyrenees, eh? So exotic, you Englishmen. 🙂
englishbloke, that reminds me of the time at Toad Hollow Daylily Farm when the Swann truck (home food delivery business) racing by on the highway dropped case after case of ice cream products out its back doors. The daylily proprietors took advantage of the opportunity after trying to wave-down the driver to no avail.
“Toad Hollow Daylily Farm”!! That sounds like it’s out of, what, Tolkien or something!
“The fleas that tease in the high Pyrenees…” – who wrote that?
Pyrenees has the double advantage of being both pleasingly exotic and delightfully CHEAP – a pal owns property there so we get it at a bargain price.
Where’s your local ski resorts? Colorado?
Liked the snowman pic!
Hilaire Belloc wrote that.
Yeah, Colorado is our closest ski area. Not that I’m into winter sports or anything.
You forget Snow Creek across the border into western Missouri. It is man-made.
Lawrence used to have Mont Blue. But I can’t find any present-day reference to it.
