This is Sugarfood & Peaches BBQ in Ft. Scott. Dave and I noticed it last time we passed through town, but it wasn’t lunchtime. On our recent trip to Arkansas, we passed through Ft. Scott about 11 a.m. And we were hungry.

This above photo was taken last October, on a non-rainy day.

Sugarfoot & Peaches BBQ is at 1601 E. Wall in Ft. Scott (Highway 54.)

This is what the place looks like in the rain (in between windshield-wiper wipes.)

This friendly man is Frank Shelton, one of the owners.

Sugarfoot has an Emporia connection – they purchase from Evco. Evco Wholesale Foods sends trucks out across much of Kansas (and part of Missouri) every day, providing cafes and restaurants with food and supplies.

I had a good pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. You know how I love sweet potato fries.

As we were leaving, Dave bought a cup of boiled peanuts. The one time, in Georgia, that I tried boiled peanuts, I thought they were gnarly and awful.

But these had flavor, they were spicy and good.

I visited with one of the customers who talked about his children and places he had lived.

  1. It was a comfortable, inviting place to eat on a rainy day. And the boiled peanuts were great, easily better than the ones I had from a street vendor in Georgia.
