Just down the main drag from the Whiting Cafe stands this classic old gas station. Needs a little work, but it’s a beauty.

  1. What character! Probably too small for an antique shop, but might work as an ice cream and/or coffee shop if the area would support that kind of venture. Would be a shame to lose such a quaint little place.

  2. One man driving by noticed me taking photos and he said that the city was contemplating acquiring this structure and fixing it up as kind of a welcome center. Which sounds like a great idea. He did mention complicating issues, such as the old gas tanks underneath and any environmental problems they may have caused.

  3. Like you, Cheryl, I really like the architecture of these early gas stations. They are disappearing like depots, barns, etc.
