HARTFORD HARVEST DAY
September 23, 2006
The Methodist Church opened the festival with a yummy biscuits and gravy breakfast. |

Brad Heath and Jacus his donkey offered burro rides as a fundraiser for the Hartford High Spanish Club. Heath provided the livestock, Jeanette Sliter the serapes and sombreros.
For $3 you got a ride and a digital picture.

The ride, the photo.

The theme for Hartford Harvest Day was
"A Rock and Roll Harvest."
Even some power poles were decorated. |

There was a car show at the festival.
I loved this car -- a 1957 Chevolet 210 9-passenger wagon.
A 9-passenger wagon!
Colors are India Ivory and Tropical Turquoise.
The owner is Bill Johnson of Topeka. |
Johnson said that this
Chevy 210 would have sold for about $1,750 new back in 1957.
The only options purchased with this car were tinted windows and a heater. (I can't believe a heater was an option.)

When I was young, our family had a red '60 Chevy Impala and the dashboard looked a lot like this. That interior ring on the steering wheel is the horn - very accessible. |
283 V-8. Not original. It came with a V-6. |

I loved this guy's hat - and his expression. |
The theme for the event was "A Rock and Roll Harvest."
And these kids were rockin'.
rockin' some more |
still rockin' |
Man on a Deere. And that's Bill's Hardware in the background. |
The driver points out a family member to the boy on board. |
The boy waves to family in the crowd.
These tractors steer themselves. "Look Ma, no hands." |
A classic Chevy pickup. |
There were llamas! |
I don't remember the name of the business that had this entry in the parade, but it was some sort of repair business. It appeared to be a father and his adorably cute kids. |
Other kids that were on the repair business trailer.
(see previous photo)
I liked the grease on this girl's face and all the props. |
It's not a Kansas parade without a fire truck. |
In the parade, there were also horses, Shriners on motorcycles, a couple dozen people on noisy four-wheelers and many other entries.
But surprisingly, no marching band.
