Today’s mail brought the January 2008 issue of Euroman magazine, a product of Denmark.
Me and Barack Obama in the same magazine … well, as englishbloke would say… “Whoo!”
Euroman is a beautiful and slick magazine published in Copenhagen. It’s a magazine comparable to Esquire or Vanity Fair.
This 146-page January issue focuses on the U.S. The cover story is, obviously, about Barack Obama, and the issue includes numerous articles, including one on author Jonathan Letham and a piece about Tommy Hilfiger.
I’d tell you what the articles are about, but I can’t read any of them – they’re in Danish.
Oh, and there’s an article about KANSAS!
The title of the article written by Jonas Langvad Nilsson is “Undskyld, hvor ligger Kansas? ” which translates to “Excuse me, where do I find Kansas?”

And, if you look closely, you might see that “Cheryl Unruh” is mentioned and quoted in this article. I hope I was articulate… I dunno, can’t read it – my Danish is a little, um, non-existent. I’m searching for a Danish interpreter – have a lead on one at WSU. (I’ve tried the online translating sites but got poor results. And the article is rather lengthy – seven pages.)
Anyway, I enjoyed phone and e-mail conversations with Jonas Langvad Nilsson of Copenhagen, the journalist who wrote the article and sent me this copy of the magazine.

Jonas said he enjoyed his visit to Kansas last June. He and the photographer, Lotte Hansen, visited Greensburg and Salina, Wichita, Medicine Lodge and a few other places.
If and when I’m able to read the article (or have it read to me), I’ll let you all know what Jonas has to say about Kansas.
Wow, you and Barack! COOL! I hope you can get that translated, I’d love to read the whole article. I wish I knew someone who could do that.
I meant to ask you today about the search for a translator. If none are found before ESU resumes classes it may be possible to have one of our Finnish students help. The ESU Office of International Education thought some might be fluent. Countries in Europe are like states in the US. Lots of cross-pollination culturally.
Jonas thought that Swedes or Norwegians would be more likely to help than the Finns. He gave me the name of a Danish guy at WSU, someone he interviewed for the article.
I do have my friend Nils here in Garnett. He grew up in Denmark, even served with the Royal Army. He is now married to my friend and is a carpenter around the area. A VERY good carpenter and hard wood flood guy. Need floors? cabinets? Danish Furniture? Call Nils Rytter.

Well during the floods we WAS working on the hard wood floors at the VFW hall in Osawatomie.
