I’ve been so busy and I’ve gotten way behind on my picture posting. Here’s Steve posing with another of his cool shirts. I’m not sure if this was from last Wednesday or Saturday – I’m lost in my own world these days. Here’s the rest of his collection that I’ve recorded.
The Orchard Man
I had a chance to visit with Bob Karr of The Orchard at Saturday’s Farmers Market. Don’t remember what he was talking about here, but maybe it was his trip to Finland. Since the weather can wreak havoc on his orchard, I asked him how the apples were coming along this year. “It’s a branch-breaking …
Bob’s Breakfast Bars
Bob Arndt Bob and Christine Arndt were at Saturday’s Farmers Market with flowers and veggies and Bob’s Breakfast-Energy Bars. I love those breakfast bars, the honey-nut-chocolate chip bars. (Ingredients: oats, honey, bananas, pecans, whole wheat flour, canola oil, semi-sweet chocolate chips, wheat germ, vanilla extract, kosher salt, and ground cinnamon.) Bob and Christine Ardnt were …
Steve Graham’s snazzy shirts
Today. At Wednesday’s Farmers Market, I complimented Steve Graham on his shirt, as I do at every farmers market, and we talked about his cool shirt collection. So, today I thought I’d go through the Flyover archives and show you some of his wardrobe. July 14, 2010. I had forgotten my camera when I went …
Farmers Market on a roll
Ready to roll. It was the Homegrown Celebration this morning at the Emporia Farmers Market, sponsored by ESB Financial, which is right nearby at 8th and Merchant. Wonky watermelons. After the littlest kids rolled watermelon, there was seed spitting for the next age group. The older kids prepared for the watermelon eating contest. Watermelon judge …
Happy Independence Day
A bouquet of flowers for sale at Emporia’s Farmers Market on Saturday.
Corn-on-the-cob
Oh boy, corn hit the Emporia Farmers Market this week. And now there are six ears in my refrigerator.
Cherries
Bob Karr at The Orchard grew some cherries and sold them at today’s Farmers Market. Rachael LeClear, left, talks to a woman about her rain barrels for sale. Read about the rain barrels in today’s Emporia Gazette: Water the lawn, wash your hair. The bright light that Rand emits is nearly blinding. Tracy shields her …
At the Market
At this morning’s market, flowers and herbs. Overcast and mid-60s. Record-breaking day – the earliest the market has ever seen tomatoes. Hoop-house or hot-house or some kind of indoor-ish tomatoes. And the European Bakeshop of Hartford brought scones and croissants, cookies, bread… One of Steve Graham’s cool shirts.
May market
Flowers add a nice splash at the Farmers Market. The Emporia market opened for the season last Saturday. It begins at 8 a.m. and is at the parking lot on Merchant Street, between 7th and 8th Streets. Jim Wallace was selling these pansies. Jim Wallace. Jim Wallace’s table – eggs and greensĀ and jellies. Shiloh …
Soup Day
Tracey Graham, head honcho of the Emporia Farmers Market, dishes out some soup today at the Lyon County Extension Office, a fund-raiser for the Farmers Market. I think this soup was sausage potato. My friend, Grace, and I both had the sweet potato-winter squash soup. It was very flavorful and had chunks of fresh ginger.
