Somewhere above the timberline on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park.

It was winter up here, with a wind chill probably in the 20s.

  1. This road, and maybe this pullout, was my introduction to the Rockies, and it changed the course of my life. I looked out over the vast range and was as stunned as a kid could be. This was where I realized that the Ozarks were tree-covered hills and that the tops of these mountains were beyond the reach of trees. Cheryl, remember how we played in gullies where snow remained in the summer? Thanks for taking us there, Mom.
