The always-delightful Phil Wilke, media manager for Kansas Public Radio, acted as ringmaster from 6- 9 a.m. today, tabulating calls, keeping us volunteers in line as we answered phones, and in general, trying to make sure everything ran smoothly. Today was Day 5 of the KPR fund drive.

While the membership drive has always been important, it’s taken on some urgency this year as state and federal lawmakers are leaning toward zeroing out funds for public radio.

Kansas Public Radio stands to lose about $100,000 just in state funds. While listeners are already the largest source of funding for KPR, more and more of the station’s budget will be coming from listener-members.

If you’re a listener but haven’t pledged yet, you can pledge safely and securely online now.

Or you can listen along tomorrow and call in a pledge during the drive from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. The toll-free number is 1-888-577-5268.

Above are the frequencies in northeast and east central Kansas if you want to listen to KPR on your radio.

Or you can listen online.

Phil updates the tote board. This morning, a challenge was offered by Tom and Mary Jennings of Lawrence – they would donate $1,200 if 30 pledges were taken by 8 a.m. Challenge met. And over $6,000 was raised between 6-9 a.m. today. Winning!

If Kansas Public Radio is a part of your life, please consider making a pledge.

Kansas Public Radio comes to us from the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence.
