As mentioned earlier today, the William Allen White House State Historic Site is now open on Sunday afternoons for your viewing pleasure, from 1-5 p.m.

To kick off the new Sunday hours, free ice cream was offered. John Mallon (not pictured), Dr. Stephen Haught, and Julie Johnson were there to serve ice cream to guests under a cypress tree.

When I talked to him mid-afternoon, Nick Gronseth, Site Administrator, said that about 26 or 27 people had already toured the house.

Nick Gronseth stands beside a photo of a previous ice cream event with a William Allen White connection.

The photo was taken at the dedication of the Peter Pan Park wading pool, which was held in 1931. William Allen White and his chums (including U.S. Vice-President Charles Curtis, U.S. Senator Arthur Capper, Gov. Edward Hoch) attended the event at which 25,000 free ice cream cones were served.
