Digging Potatoes

July 18th, 2008 at 6:35 am

John Crisp of Shepherd’s Valley said during the tour on Tuesday that he has dug potatoes by hand. And that’s why he has a potato digger.

His potato digger is 102 years old, made in 1906. It was designed to be pulled behind a horse, but Crisp hooks it up to his tractor.

This year at Shepherd’s Valley they’ve grown red potatoes, Yukon gold and Kennebec.

Two munchkins examine the potato digger.

That’s pretty cool to see such an old piece of equipment still in use! I love old farm implements, even if I don’t know what they are half the time.
