More poultry photos taken last week at Shepherd’s Valley CSA near Americus. Turkeys!

I think these are the Bourbon Reds – a heritage breed.

John Crisp said, “In the morning we call them and they’re learning to respond in unison.”

  1. The top photo are the Bourbon Red turkeys – voted by a NY Times chef’s poll as the best flavored turkeys in America. These are the ones gourmet chefs line up to get.

The bottom photo are broad-breasted Bronze turkeys. Both breeds are raised on organic grain rations and lush green pastures. They make a Thanksgiving family event memorable!

  2. These photos are in the brooder houses. These turkeys are now out grazing on lush pastures, eating grasshoppers, and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.
