Stopped by UPer’s

UPer’s Diner is open now at 1015 Commercial. Dave and I had the featured dish on the menu - a pasty: ground beef, potato and onion in a pastry crust ($4). This was a one-pound pasty. Quite a bit of food here.

They’ll have ribs after the first of the year.

Daily specials are $4.95. They’re open for lunch and dinner.

  1. I ate there on Wednesday.

  2. I want to try that place soon. I’ll post over on the discussion board what day. Larry and I will likely take lunch there next week or the week after, weather permitting.

I’ll be in Amanda’s on the 2nd, so will probably eat there too. I mean, who can walk into Amanda’s without eating? I wonder if they will have the portabella panini the day I’m there. I really love that sandwich.

  3. Just what is a panini and what makes it so good?

  4. It’s a sandwich at Amanda’s. Everything there is good. But I love the portabella mushrooms and cheese together. And of course, her bread is wonderful.

  5. Cheryl - I really like the prices, but you didn’t say if you liked the pasty. Millard and I went on Wed. We were really impressed with the prices - you can get a hamburger for $2.45 (if I remember right). Everyone needs to eat a pasty - as you might really like it. However, we can’t brag on it like we can about anything and everything at Amanda’s. ‘Nough said!
Roger, you didn’t say how you liked it either. I guess we missed you on Wed.
Janet, keep us posted about the time on the 2nd.

  6. The pasty was okay, but it’s not a favorite dish of mine. The owner mentioned that one of their daily specials that week had been a hot roast beef sandwich. I don’t know how they prepare it, but I pictured that an open sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. If that’s the case, I’d like to try something like that.

  7. I had a pasty at the September down town flea market which was freshly made. The one I had Wednesday seemed to be reheated from the previous day. The owners dad said they were planning to advertise after the first. When the volume of business may give them the kind of expected business that will keep fresh-bake pasties in front of the public.

The texture of the filling was nothing like what I had in September. The bread was tough also.

  8. I was there around 1 PM.
