Shower warning: real
Poor Felicity.
Sure, we’ve all showered or talked on the phone during thunderstorms, even though “they” have told us not to. It’s one of those ignored warnings during thunderstorms. Because, I mean, really, is lightning going to strike you inside your home?
Apparently it can.
It happened in Topeka Saturday to a 15-year-old girl: Lightning Strike Injures Teen in Shower.

We heard about this on KPR this morning and commented that we had heard you shouldn’t be in the bath tub or at the kitchen sink, but we had just thought that was something our Mother’s probably told us when we were younger. That story certainly makes a person think. Besides unplugging the TV and computer a person should be aware of other things too, I guess.
I never shower or wash dishes during a thunderstorm. But I’ve been in the shower when I could hear one had arrived. But yah just gotta rinse off that soap!
I’ve heard also that you shouldn’t talk on the telephone during a storm. We were in a boat on the lake one time when it started lightning and I had to MAKE the DH to go back to shore. I probably saved his life again!
When I worked in Denver I saw many instances when lightning fried telephones, stereos and televisions inside homes. One time it melted most of the wiring inside the house; it was a miracle it didn’t catch on fire. Lightning once fused a cheap plastic telephone to a plastic table in a guy’s living room. Imagine what the guy would have been like afterward–phone stuck to his ear, or something. Lightning is much more powerful and dangerous than most people realize. Don’t think that just because you’re indoors you’re safe. You’re not!
We’ve had lightning kill my DH’s favorite horse, Lindy, and a calf, Rosie and then our house (July, 1998) and then, after we’d moved to an apartment in town, it hit our (new) TV, and then after we rebuilt and moved back home, it hit our satelite dish receiver –twice….(you might not want to stand too close to me…)
It’s your electrifying personality Ele. You are aglow with it.
Let’s all clap for elebrown!
April, that made me laugh! Remember that old cartoon (maybe he was in Lil’ Abner?) where this fellow always had a black cloud over his head? …that’s me, only my cloud has lightning…. (no ‘electrifying personality’ here!)
