Cloudy skies kept it pleasant at the Farmers Market this morning.

The sniffing of the canteloupe. And looky, watermelon in the back along with piles of sweet corn.

Doris Slocombe plays a hammer dulcimer, hammering out melodies such as “Greensleeves” and “Home on the Range.”

BBQ sandwich. It’s perfectly OK to eat BBQ for breakfast. This man said so. The St. James Missionary Baptist Church has a regular booth, selling baked goods and BBQ.

They had lemon pound cakes, chocolate pound cakes and a variety of pies and cobblers. The sugar-free stuff went quickly. In about 10 minutes, they had sold 8 of their 10 sugar-free pies.

  1. Doris is playing a “Hammer Dulcimer”———I play one very badly!!!!!!!
That is why I stick to the Washboard when I play music in public!!!!!!!!! :)

  2. I bought some big beautiful tomatoes today from a stand on the highway. Steve used to work in xray here. He also used to work at Emporia hospital before moving back home to Garnett to work for us. He grows some gorgious and tasty tomatoes to sell every year.

  3. Our container tomatoes & peppers & squash are doing great——I have more then enough tomatoes & squash & peppers & for us to use——I need to start making tomato sauce & freezing some of our squash!
We didn’t plant that many–but it is more than enough for our own use!!!!!!!

  4. Hammer dulcimer - thanks, Flips!

  5. I’ve got to get to know Doris someday. I’ve run into her a couple of times, but have never even had a conversation with her. She seems like a neat person.

Okay, this week’s Farmer’s MKT pictures are more than I can bear. I will have to kick myself out of bed and into clothes early and get up to Emporia for that next week. I will save breakfast and have a bbq beef sandwich. And buy one of everything else. LOL

  6. I believe almond croissants ARE healthy food! I want CORN!
However, I was at Anderson Hall checking in craft exhibits Someone even had decorated emu eggs–well, carved emu eggs, that is. I saw Dave–he looked busy over there in photography, and he did come over to talk a bit. (Cheryl, if I were you, I’d hang on to that fella; he is just SO kind and nice!)
The crafts judge was going to and taking her husband to the Miracle Cafe in Reading! I think she said that the house belonged either to her grandfather or great-grandfather.
I need to go back and see everything else!
