From Emporia: The Story of William Allen White
Featuring readings from the forthcoming youth biography by the author and Newton, Kansas middle school librarian, Beverley Buller

Beverley Olson Buller
grew up in Winfield, KS, the daughter of a dentist and a housewife with a love of history. After graduation from Winfield High School, she received an undergraduate degree in English and secondary education from Kansas State University. For the past 30 years she has taught middle school students in language arts, social studies, and been librarian to students in Newton, KS, and has been married over 20 years to a science teacher and golf coach. She has a master degree in education from Wichita State University and school library certification from the School of Library and Information Management of Emporia State University and has served as a middle school librarian for 14 years. She is in her eighth year of service on the William Allen White Children’s Book Awards selection committee and is a member of the executive committee for the awards. Emporia was a touchstone for her maternal grandmother, and her paternal aunt and first cousin, and maternal great-grandparents are buried in Maplewood Cemetery. In Emporia, she has found the same kind hearts of which WAW often spoke.

  1. Beverley, bless her heart, is driving in from Newton to do this evening program. I hope we have a nice turnout. I have posted the information at the University’s website which will be read by many who teach Children’s Literature, History and Library Science.
