Often, on Sundays, I post photographs of Kansas churches. And this is was one.

This is one of those things that breaks your heart when you return to your hometown: change.

The Methodist congregation gave up their church several years ago. People died, church membership dwindled. The church was sold and the new owner was reportedly going to rent the building out for meetings and reunions, things like that.

While passing through Pawnee Rock in November, I saw that the City Hall had moved into the church and had turned the house of worship into a place of government.

I was in this building every week for several years. Our Girl Scout troop (No. 4) met in the basement. We came here for the occasional church dinner and ice cream socials. I recall a fun Halloween party in the basement.

My fond memories took a stab when I saw the building now with a tractor and clutter on the south lawn (where we played Red Rover.)
