Pieces of Emporia

The former Rose’s Grocery Store.

Today’s Flyover People column: Pieces of Emporia

You can listen to Kelley Hunt’s song, “Roses,” on the Prairie Home Companion website. On that page, click on SEGMENT 1 and you can “fast-forward” through the first 13:48 minutes to get to Garrison Keillor talking to Kelley Hunt about Emporia.

(Or, along the way to the “Roses” song, you can stop and listen to “Sunflower,” another great Kansas tune.)

  1. Cheryl, there is a vast number of life-long Emporians who will never really appreciate this town the way you, a Pawnee Rock transplant, do. Your writing may move some into your corner. More in Discussion.

  2. Who owns that store now? Is someone living in it? That’d be a neat place to convert.

  3. I remember that store from when Nina lived on West street. Also I think I may have been in an apartment upstairs a couple of times.
