On my way home…

…I stopped by Toad Hollow and found Roger Heineken, Jane Russell (the dog), Gaylord West, some Cheez-Its, cheese chunks, and Schlitz, the beer that made Milwaukee famous.
“She’s had three Cheez-Its,” Gaylord said of Jane, “And now she’s addicted to them.”
It was late afternoon when I arrived and the garden visitors had quit visiting for the day. Roger and Gaylord were relaxing in the shade.
May is the best weather month and we’ve had some beautiful days this week. Yesterday was perfect, could not have been better. No wind! 70s, sunshine. Today was a bit warmer, but still absolutely perfect.

A good pace of visitors today with a third of out-of-towners. I expect tomorrow to be stronger. Too many graduation ceremonies this weekend though this brought people out today.
The peafowl are from a Dallas high-rise senior residential place. They may have adopted Nina and Gaylord. They are accustomed being close to people.
They are the common Indian Blue peafowl like at the Emporia Zoo but much tamer.
So THAT’S what happens at Toad Hollow when the visitors are friends! AH HA!
Roger and Gaylord and Jane Russell look relaxed, like it was a good day.
And yes, it was beautiful. I think it got up to 87 in Emporia today. We were up there shopping. The heat didn’t even bother me. I was enjoying the absolutely gorgeous day.
My sister and I were some of the “out-of-towners” there yesterday! We drove down from Topeka, but were there in the mid-afternoon hours when it was plenty sunny and warm.
We came to see and take pictures of iris, and left with many of those, also pics of statuary, peonies, a busy bee and a very beautiful, sweet old dog.
Missed the peacock, though. I want to come back for “Art in the Garden” but I have to work that weekend. Maybe I can get down there before closing time, though. I’m sure it’d be worth the trip.
Kris - wish I’d have known you were coming, I’d have tried to get there when you were there. It’s always fun to meet in person the Flyover Friends who stop by this website.
