McPherson Post Office

Amidst street construction sits the McPherson post office.
Post offices come in every shape and size. You’d kind of think being part of the federal government, there’d be some uniformity, but there’s not.

Next time you go to Eureka, swing by that PO. It’s a neat old building too, as I recall. I went inside once when I had to leave here early to get to something there, so used that post office, and inside has that old bank feeling, kinda neat. Nothing spectacular that I recall.
Speaking of neat stuff, did you know there’s a mural on the wall in the City Hall in Madison, Kansas? I wonder who painted it.
Probably a WPA mural. Lots of post offices in the mid west got murals during the Depression.
That looks like a small version of my high school.
Some of the older post office buildings are quite wonderful if the original details remain intact. The two closest to me were both renovated 20-30 years ago and are now depressingly institutional. Featureless baby blue walls and bulletproof glass at the counters.
