Say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend Tracy! If you’re looking for a fine human being, this is one of them.

Tracy and Rand Simmons were among the shoppers at the Farmers Market this morning.

Rand struck several poses for the camera while standing in line waiting for….

… tomatoes! Tomatoes in May – where did they come from, Peru? Nope, these are hot house tomatoes. It’s nice to see the color red again.

Buying a bag of tomaters is Steve Graham, or Mr. Hawaii, as I like to call him (actually, I’ve never called him that, but he’s always wearing these islandic shirts.)

Also back at the market, for the first time this season, Sebastian O’Connor with baked goods (can you say almond croissant?) from the European Bake Shop (a Kansas treasure) in Hartford.

And there’s Jim Wallace of Heritage Hill Homestead. With onions and jelly, turnips (I think) and pasta. I bought some linguine. And I bought a pound of ground buffalo because I like the buffalo burgers, especially topped with Simon’s Mustard. (Befriend Simon, maybe he’ll send you some! Or you can buy the mustard at Reeble’s.)

Market Season is off to a great start. There are vendors with healthy produce and customers are plentiful and eager. Because of the moisture we’ve had, Tracey Graham, Market Magician and Master Gardener herself, predicts a fine year of produce.

However, the Farmers Market is not totally self-supporting; if you’d like to become a Friend of the Market, contact Tracey Graham for details. You can also ask her to e-mail you the weekly Farmers Market newsletter.

  1. Happy Birthday, Tracy. We hope you have a great day.

Wow! The tomatoes and the onions and the jelly’s and . . . everything looks wonderful. We are going to have to get ourselves to the Farmer’s Market. We try to make one trip do us for the whole day or several days (with the gas prices), but this might have to be an extra trip on Sat.

Will it start on Wed this week?

  2. Too early…
Once again, I woke up, looked at the clock. 7:58. I didn’t bother rushing around to get there. One of these days.

Wednesdays are in the evening aren’t they? I might make it then.

  3. One more Happy Birthday to Tracy! I just now heard it was your special day yesterday.
Wow, individual pictures of Tracy and Rand they really rate don’t they! Wonderful coverage of the Market Cheryl, us vendors appreciate it.
