Black Jack Park

Along U.S. 56 just a mile or two east of Baldwin City is Black Jack Park, scene of an historic battle, which just may have been the first battle of the Civil War.

This upcoming weekend is the 152nd Anniversary of the Battle of Black Jack. The following events are planned (information taken from the Black Jack website.)
Battle’s 152nd Anniversary Events: The events to commemorate the 152nd anniversary of the Battle will be on May 31st and June 2nd. Activities on the 31st begin at 4:30 PM. Battlefield tours are at 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, and 6:45 PM. The Campfire Supper is from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, cost is $12.50 for adults in advance, $15.00 at the gate, kids 12 and under $5.00. Tickets on sale at Mid-America Bank and the Chamber of Commerce in Baldwin City and at the Lawrence Visitors Center. All other events are free. All events are open to the public.
On June 2nd, the anniversary of the Battle, there will be a dawn tour of the Battlefield at the exact time that the Battle took place. Arrive at the Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park between 4:30 and 5:00 AM. Bring a flashlight as it will be dark when you arrive. Free and open to the public.
