Belpre, pop. 101, is in Edwards County.

Now, we’re in my old neighborhood. We didn’t photograph Macksville on this trip because we did that town last September (scroll down to Sept. 4 - 9.)

We drove into Belpre and I saw this building….

It’s the old Belpre gymnasium. When I attended Macksville High, I went out for basketball my first year there, my sophomore year. OK, so the boys got to practice after school in the MHS gym, which meant the girls team had to ride in a bus the 7 or 8 miles to Belpre to practice here. After practice, we rode the bus back to Macksville. Then I got on an activity bus which took me to Radium (about 16 miles). And there, my dad picked me up and drove me home (about 8 miles.) A lot of time was spent being hauled around - not much fun, especially if you weren’t a really good basketball player. But, at least I have good memories of running “killer drills” in this gym…

These trucks were parked in Belpre. Disaster Restoration Units - to help tornado victims, I assume. No one around them. Missouri tags.

There’s not much left of Belpre. But here’s a charming library.
