Atom Pop Poppers and Cream Puffs

The Atom Pop Corn Popper has a loyal following. These poppers were hard to find - especially after the company quit making them. But, someone in Bushton, Kans., bought the business and, once again, Atom Pop Poppers are for sale.
Theda Wolford of Bill’s Hardware in Hartford does a brisk business with these poppers. Several people have contacted me including a woman in Alaska who saw the poppers mentioned on Flyover People and e-mailed me for contact information. Theda said a man in Iowa ordered six of them at Christmastime. And then his sister placed a similar order.

My mom is in town and this morning, since the thunderstorms were still a ways off, we took the 20 minute drive to Hartford to make my regular rounds.
Theda showed us photos from her 80th birthday party that was earlier this month.

We bought a few things at Bill’s Hardware and then we moved on to the European Bakeshop.

Mom and I each had a cream puff, but these pieces of cheesecake looked pretty tempting.
While we were in Bill’s, a couple from Howard stopped in on their way to Kansas City. They had read about Hartford in the Guidebook for Kansas Explorers and they stopped to check out Bill’s Hardware and the European Bakeshop.

And up pops Bushton, so to speak ! There are some enterprising folks out there in Farmer Township.
If and when I ever get back to Kansas, I will have my Guidebook in hand and include the places you talk about Cheryl.
Up pops Bushton!
Bushton, as you may know is actually the center of Kansas. I learned that from Rex Buchanan of the Kansas Geological Survey.
He told me: “Using various methods, the Kansas Geological Survey has determined the state’s center is 98°22′38″ W, 38°29′38″ N. This location is in
northwestern Rice County, about 1.5 miles southeast of the town of
Bushton.”
