Buddy, can you spare…

… a ray of sunshine? The gray clouds are crushing me. I need a blast of blue, a dash of sun.
We’ve had clouds for, I don’t know, two weeks now? I’m sure there was some sunshine scattered amongst the days somewhere, but the gray obliterates any memory of clear skies.
My mind is murky. Only the [...]

Crabapples!

Ah, the beautiful crabapples have burst into bloom. Some are the color of rasperry sherbet. This tree stands in front of ESU’s Memorial Union.

This is a neighbor’s tree that I can see from my front porch. My crabapple tree is just a baby, and it’s not big and mighty like this one.

An army of grape [...]

ESU Inauguration

At ESU’s Memorial Union this afternoon, banners were being hung in Webb Lecture Hall and the custodial staff was polishing the floor outside the Colonial Ballroom.
Students were shining the metal handrails on the staircase. Tables had been set for Michael Lane’s Inaugural luncheon tomorrow.
The inauguration ceremony takes place [...]

KPR goal met

Update on the Kansas Public Radio Membership Drive:
Last night about 6 p.m., KPR met its financial goal of $220,000. Original plans had been to carry the on-air pitching through today, but listeners met the goal and so the pledge drive ended a day earlier than scheduled. Regular programming has resumed. I offer my thanks to [...]

And, the lilac at the edge of the front porch is all [...]

Olmitz

Olmitz, pop. 138, is in northwest Barton County. A dozen cars and pickups were parked in front of St. Ann’s Church last Saturday afternoon.

And the Knights of Columbus Hall. This was a sand street. A damp sand street - and my feet sank gleefully with each step. I miss sand. Eastern Kansas towns use [...]

Eight Wonders of Kansas

J. Schafer included this in his newscast this morning on Kansas Public Radio and, heck, it’s also a good thing to post on Flyover People.

A Wonder will be selected for each of the eight rural culture elements [...]
