Kelley Hunt and her band rocked the Granada Theatre this evening in Emporia. Yeow!

Raised in Emporia, she played for an appreciative hometown crowd. Tonight’s performance was a benefit for the Emporia Arts Center and the Granada Theatre.

Kelley always just blows the audience away with her voice, her keyboard skills and her energy.  She takes over the stage, takes over the audience, takes over the building.

Dave and I sat in the balcony which gave us a great view. I spent the evening in amazement, watching her hands fly over that keyboard. When she sang “I Am Ready,” her hands were a blur, just a blur. Her hands moved vertically and horizontally at the same time. It was like there’s no way you can move like that and have your hands come down on the right keys, but she does.

After a series of energetic songs, Kelley moved over to the baby grand for a slow and soulful “Heartland.”  I couldn’t help the tears that fell with that song. The Flint Hills Discovery Center has licensed “Heartland” and they play it in their immersion theater.

And she also sang the best version ever of “Over the Rainbow.”

Kelley Hunt and her band are about to hit the road on tour. Her newest CD is “Gravity Loves You” which is fabulous.  If she’s coming your way, you don’t to miss her performance.

The magnificent Kelley Hunt. I’m not saying I’m special or anything, but I did get a hug.

  1. Cheryl,
Kelley is indeed amazing! I didn’t get to see her in Emporia, but was fortunate enough to catch her the following weekend in Wichita at the River Festival and she was fabulous!!!
