Rand Simmons hung his shingle today, so to speak.

It was his first day in his new office.

This morning I dropped by the law office of Rand Simmons – on the 4th floor of the Bank of America building at 527 Commercial.

For the past five years, Rand has worked for Kansas Legal Services here in Emporia, handling criminal and traffic cases as well as juvenile and family law.

And that’s the kind of work he’ll still be doing.

His wife, Tracy, and I are friends and so I’ve known Rand since they moved to town in 2006. Rand is one of the most decent guys I know. If you happen to be in need of a lawyer, give Rand a call.

“I’ve always enjoyed this work from day one,” he said. “Ask Tracy. She’s never seen me dislike it. The job is stressful sometimes, but never boring.”

“I enjoy the misdemeanors and traffic cases,” he said. “Those are usually people who have just made mistakes, they’re not bad people. We’ve all made mistakes.”

Rand said there are two parts to his job, “One, that I represent the people the best that I can, and two, I guide them through the process.” Rand said he takes time to explain the judicial process and lets clients know what they can expect from each step of the way, each hearing.

And, Rand is the only Spanish-speaking attorney in town. (Check out his Spanish-rich bio below.)

The office of Rand Simmons, Attorney at Law, is at 527 Commercial, Ste. 416, Emporia, Kansas. Phone: 620-340-0043.
