St. Teresa Catholic Church, Westphalia

Old building next to the newish Catholic church. I’m guessing this is a rectory and it probably matched a big old church.

Were they or are they a Franciscan community? Emporia’s Sacred Heart’s rectory looks similar to that, and as I recall hearing, it used to house a group of Franciscan Priests or monks or or or.

At some point Sacred Heart in Emporia bought a house across the street and the priest lived there, and they turned the rectory into the Church offices. Nuns were housed in that newer looking building there along 2nd. I’m not sure, but imagine they were who taught at the school.

Then when the nuns all left, they moved the priest into the nun’s building, and tore down the house. I don’t know where things stand now.

Emporia went from several priests to two, the one that covered both St. Catherine’s and Sacred Heart, and the one who covered the Catholic center for ESU, there on Merchant.
