B-29 Memorial

June 20th, 2010 at 8:01 am

At the Great Bend Municipal Airport, there’s a B-29 Memorial, recognizing the importance of the B-29 in WWII. Here’s a history of the B-29 Superfortress – the information on the plaques at the memorial. Great Bend was one of the crew-training bases for the B-29.

The photos are the best I have seen of this Memorial.
If only those crew plaques could speak …

Western Kansas is of course “B-29 Crew Training” territory.
Read more about this period of WW II history at http://prairiebombers.org and about the planned B-29 Museum in Pratt.

The B-29 Museum will tell the stories of many of these crews and their experiences as time and money allows.

Thank you for writing about and remembering these Crew men.
