Dancing to the Tallgrass Express

The Tallgrass Express String Band played for the Symphony in the Flint Hills Gallery opening tonight in Cottonwood Falls. From left: Charlie Laughridge, Loren Ratzloff, Annie Wilson and Carl Reed.
They have a new CD out! It’s called “Clean Curve of Hill Against Sky: Songs of the Kansas Flint Hills.”
The Tallgrass Express String Band was the subject of a column I wrote last September.
They play great music and they were the perfect choice for tonight’s gallery opening.

Dave has his Morning Cattle Drive photos on display (which are absolutely incredible.)

Dave has photos on the wall, but he also brought his two cowboy slide shows.

As the crowds left (to go to the Flint Hills Rodeo in Strong City), there were a few people left in the room – and they were dancers!

Luke and Julia McBride
Luke is way cool, but so is Julia. She’s a bright and positive person, and she’s a life and leadership coach. Check out her website.
And I’ve written columns about her, too: From Chicago to Matfield and Coach Julia.

These folks sure know how to have fun.

On the other side of the hay bales, there were other dancers, too.

Luke joined these dancers for awhile.

A good time was had by all.
Fantastic! What fun. Aren’t you so glad you were there to see this, hear it, feel it? Beautiful.
Yeah, Janet, it was one of those moments when you think, “This is real life – this is what it’s all about.”
Like.
How neat! How fun!
Brings back good memories of dances on the Pavilion at the Rock on Satur-nights long ago… Polka, Schoddish, Waltz… all music performed by local fiddlers and guitarists.
I TOTALLY, TOTALLY LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!
The dance is so wonderful and free spirited! I would really have loved to have danced there too!!!! Thanks for making me homesick! Peggy
A longer video would have been great!!!! Peggy
BEST COUPLE on the floor Julia !!
Would love to have been there!!!!! (We had company here) Thanks for posting the pictures!
You were made for each other!!!!!
I really want to go to this gallery to see the pictures. I assume they will be open this Saturday??
Heather, If you’ll be in Cottonwood Falls tomorrow, I’ll bet they’ll be open during the Folklife Festival. It’s in the building closest to the courthouse on the west side.
They’re having another Opening tonight, 5 – 7:30 and we’ll be there for the latter part of that. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/photo.php?pid=4049089&id=199818699593
Oh, maybe I could come tonight then. I assume the pictures are for sale? I actually know this place…my sister in law had her wedding reception and dance there!
Yes, the photos are for sale.
Dave and I will probably get there around 6:15 or so, just guessing.
