No one cuddles up with a honey locust. No kid with any sense climbs one. There was one on my grandma’s farm, right near the washhouse and sometimes its claws would reach out and poke me. Sharp needles!

For scale.
Me gots one of them there Honey Locust trees in my yard… not too many birds even use the tree. Sticky leaves and thorny branches.. !! They do provide much good shade though..!! Before I knew what the tree was, I called it “my African Thorn tree”..LOL..!!
My father in law calls them devil trees. He would probably cut every one of them down, but dh and I both like the look of them. We trim the thorns off the lower parts of the trees in areas where people or pets are likely to get snagged.
Toad Hollow Daylily and Iris Farm has a long row of them, too. The thorns are manicured up the trunk for safety. I do love the form of those trees.
i think your father was correct when he called them devil trees jenni. we had two of them at our lake house at herington lake. tryed to get rid of them. cutting spraying, choping, and they are cumming up from the roots. just like the devil they keep comming back.$%^^**^%$#)_()&*^$!
