Lola’s

On Sunday, I stopped in at Lola’s in Topeka to meet Kris, an online friend. Fun stuff, meeting strangers that you’re sure you’re going to like in person.

It’s a pleasant coffee house at 10th and Gage in Topeka.

I had one of the best sandwiches ever. It was, I think, a Dilly Beef – with cream cheese, sprouts and tomatoes. Incredible. Made me wish I’d ordered a whole sandwich instead of just a half.

But, to make up for that, I went back for one of these. A cream cheese theme.

But that wasn’t an easy decision. The bakery case was full of goodies.

Yum. That sandwich does look good. I’ve never eaten at Lola’s; I’ve just had coffee.

I want to get up there and meet Kris at Lola’s too. I haven’t gotten to meet her in person and have never been to Lola’s. And now I want that sandwich.

Well, y’all just come on by! I am, in fact, at Lola’s right now, but not for much longer. About time to meander on home.

I have kept track of this posting since Cheryl put it on – Jan 28th. I have hoped to find a chance to go to Topeka and go to Lola’s every week end. We finally did today. We met Millard’s cousin there. We went to the shopping center on 10th & Gage. We looked and looked for Lola’s. We drove around the shopping center 3 or 4 times. Finally . . . we stopped and asked someone where Lola’s was. It is now called Blackbird. We found out that Lola’s was named after one of the owners dog. We enjoyed ourselves, but they didn’t have the Dilly Beef. We had a Greek salad and it was very good. We spent 2 hours in there visiting and it was perfect for a quiet visit with Millard’s cousin.

Darn, no more dilly beef? Too bad, that was a wonderful sandwich. Glad you found it, Onnalee, despite the name change from Lola’s to Blackbird.

They had dilly beef on their menu but they were out. I want to go back and get one. I’m glad we found it too because it was a nice place to go for lunch so much better than the “fast food” places. There was a long table in the back with probably 10 or 12 college students, studying together. I loved seeing that.
