Lori and Tom

We had a treat yesterday – Tom and Lori Parker of Blue Rapids came to visit. Tom and Dave wanted to do some photographic exploration in the wilds of Bushong and in the wilds of Emporia. And they also visited Dunlap, the wilds thereof.
Rick Mitchell of Mitchell-Markowitz Construction let them in the Kenyon Hall building and they spent a couple hours inside that vandalized and smelly building.
Dave has posted this great shot of Emanuel Jackson in Bushong.
And here are some of Tom’s shots from yesterday- Winter Solstice Project: Day 8.
And just for general purposes, you all might enjoy checking Tom’s blog often. He writes an award-winning column and posts a fresh one each Thursday. And now with his Winter Solstice Project, new photos go up daily: Dispatches from Kansas.
We impressed Tom and Lori with RuYi Restaurant in downtown Emporia. This is General Tao’s Chicken. Tom wanted to be sure I had a photo of that dish – he loved it. This photo is of Dave’s plate and he let me sample it – and by golly, that’s what I’m getting next time.

But, this was great, too. I had the Korean BBQ chicken. Lori enjoyed her plate of coconut shrimp.
The food has always been excellent here and their lunch menu is wonderfully priced at $4.95 for these dishes (even on Sunday). An incredible deal.
Now, it’s our turn to take a road trip up to Blue Rapids and catch the sights and scenes up there.

Tom writes an excellent blog, and I enjoy his pictures a whole lot too. I’m so glad to see the picture of Tom and Lori. What a cute, happy looking couple.
That picture of Emmanuel Jackson was just wonderful. Emotional. A proud father. I hope his daughter gets to see that picture.
someday we’ll have to eat at that restaurant. We haven’t yet.
Wow! That photo of Emanuel Jackson is super! It brought tears to my eyes! To me, it is an emotional wonderful photo! He should be very proud of the picture of him with the picture of his daughter.
As a follow-up someday, could you get a picture of father and daughter together someday when she’s visiting? Her in uniform maybe?
Cheryl — Your wonderful, succulent photos of the food brought back many fond memories, plus a few salivating glands. Oh, my, that was good food. And the company was superb. Had a hoot with you two, though I’m extremely jealous of Dave’s photo of Mr. Jackson. Why didn’t I do that, too? We can’t wait to return to your neck of the Kansas prairie, though next time I’m upping my accidental insurance policy and bringing respiratory safety equipment.
That’s a great idea Janet, I’ll have to follow up on that.
It was one of my all-time favorite expeditions. They’re both great to be with, and Tom’s work always inspires me go go deeper. Yeah, I’m already itching to go out again.
OK, I wasn’t hungry, but I am now.
I think I’m going to have to convince either Rich or Kathy, or maybe both that a road trip to Emporia is necessary, just so I can eat there. Great pics of all the food and markets, Cheryl.
Dave, your photos stir me as usual. And then I have to spend time exploring the ones on the site I haven’t seen yet.
Tom, I love your work too. That Silent Keys photo…mmm.
I can’t wait until I can retire!
