EmmaChaseCafe

Speaking of Cottonwood Falls, when my mom was here a week or so ago, one of the places we hit for lunch was the Emma Chase Cafe. We picked up mom’s cousin in Elmdale and had a tasty meal.

EmmaChase2We hit the restaurant before the rest of the lunch crowd.

Coming soon – the Broomweed Festival.

Australian Nick Charles will perform on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. If the name Nick Charles sounds familiar, maybe that’s because he’ll be at Emporia’s Granada Theatre THIS TUESDAY night, performing after the Prairie Canaries.

Nick Charles performs each year at Winfield’s annual Walnut Valley Festival, Sept. 16-20.

Sue Smith takes a lunch order. Sue is the owner of the Emma Chase and the energy behind a lot of activity in downtown Cottonwood Falls. Ten years ago, she and Charlie Klamm got the Friday night music going at the Emma Chase Cafe.  Every Friday, they serve catfish.

And there’s a variety of music.

First Friday

Second Friday

Third Friday

Fourth Friday

So you see, it’s no wonder that this place was selected as one of the 24 finalists in the Kansas Sampler Foundation’s Kansas Customs Contest. If you haven’t already, check out “Bringing Musicians Together” and vote for your top 8 Kansas Customs.

I have a weakness for chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes. ‘Twas delicious.

  1. I’ve had the pleasure of eating at the Emma Chase several times, because my friend, Nancy, was raised in Cottonwood Falls. We were also able to tour the newly restored Court House. We’ve enjoyed the Friday music night at the Emma Chase with two members of our group doing some playing and singing. All the kids even went “on-stage” for a song.

Here’s a post about the Court House and the childhood home of Nancy on Rechelle’s blog: http://mysistersfarmhouse.com/?p=729.
