Twin Rivers Run
Off the ground. A runner comes in to the finish line this morning at Soden’s Grove during the Twin Rivers Run.
There were older runners.
And younger runners.
There was also a bike race, but I didn’t catch any of that. I got there too late for the start and left before they returned.
This is Matt Slater. He was one of those folks who was disappointed last year when Emporia canceled its usual fireworks event. Slater thought this town should do something good for the Fourth of July, so he and others resurrected the old Twin Rivers Festival – the original version came to an end about 15 years ago.
Today there will be a parade at noon, some booths and fun at the 7th and Merchant parking lot during the day, and then, when darkness falls tonight, fireworks will be shot from the Emporia Aquatic Center.
Instead of whining about it – he did something. So, yay Matt!
And here’s Evora Wheeler. She’s one of Emporia’s Treasures – a persistent organizer and volunteer. She and Matt did a big chunk of the planning for today’s events. Yay, Evora!

That is neat! I’m wondering what you mean by older? That old guy looks pretty cute. And look at his great legs!
About when it ended. Nobody remembers the exact date of the last Twin Rivers festival? I remember the last one I went to, and if I remember it, then it had to be 14 years ago or less, which means there’s been no TRF in 13 or fewer years.
There were runners younger than others and runners older than others. He’s oldER, but not old. That’s what I mean by older.
Remember the time that John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band were at the TR Festival? I loved them!
Remember “1964 as the Beatles” for the street dance? This ERC is having “1964, The Tribute” this fall. I think it is the same group after litigation.
