I have never been west of the Mississippi, but I can see the prairie just as clearly as if I were standing on it.
What wonderful observations about home and the land that raised us. Growing up, I too had a rock, a granite boulder, where I went “to sort things out.” But instead of being on an open, windy hill, it was in an old-growth forest near my parents’ home, and large beech trees formed a great green roof overhead. It was a very soothing place.
Home Again is surely one of Cheryl’s “Classic Columns”.
Like “Classic Sermons”, they should be read or heard over and over to remind us of our roots and fundamentals as the progress of time dulls our memories.
