205 mph
That is the estimated wind speed of the Greensburg tornado.
Anything over 200 mph is an EF-5 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
I just caught part of an on-the-scene interview with some weather guys (from the National Weather Service, I imagine) and they said that Kansas had 12 reported tornadoes on Friday, 15 on Saturday.
Seemed like a lot more tornadoes than that.
Sure, some of them were long-lasting and moved through several counties, but still it seemed like a lot more than that.
More info…
The Greensburg tornado was the strongest tornado in the United States in 8 years.
The tornado grew and diminished in size, but at one point, it was 1.7 miles wide.
It was on the ground for 22 miles.
