Oh. My. God.

I heard a meow at the door 15 minutes ago. Thought it was Elvis (the name Dave gave to the visiting neighbor’s cat – aka False Alarm, aka Better Than Nothing.)

I peeked out the door and saw WHITE FEET.

I didn’t say anything to Dave, just let Tiger in.

“Tiger?” Dave said in disbelief, as she walked around the corner of the couch.

She’s dirty. She’s scrawny. She’s hungry. She’s practically lost her voice. And she’s glad to be home.

Tiger was gone 17 days, so she had to have eaten something somewhere.

On Saturday, our neighbor, Carol, had found Tiger’s collar in the bushes. (Tiger lost it a week or two before she went missing.) I’ve already attached it to her skinny little neck.

Yippee yi yay! Tiger’s home.

Thanks to everyone for your support. It did help to know that cats sometimes do come back.

MORNING UPDATE:

Tiger purred all night. From across the room, I could hear her. She was restless and happy and then laid on my chest and dug her claws into my throat. At 1 a.m, I got up with her and slept on the couch to settle her down.

I don’t know where she could have been. She’s quite talkative – in a raspy voice – but I just can’t understand her language.

She is so, so, so, so happy to be home.

Today I take down the WANTED posters. 🙂

I’m soooooooo thrilled Tiger is home!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing that she is back!!!!!!!!!

  2. YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! I am SOOOO happy that Tiger is home, SO happy! That is excellent and wonderful news.

Okay Tiger, I want to know where you were and with whom and why.

You are on restriction young lady.

    WHEW!

    Janet

  3. I’m SO glad to hear the good news! Also, so glad that she’s safe and sound………..now, she has about 8 lives left?

  4. I am so happy to hear she has returned! 17 days! Wow. She’s had some kind of adventure. There’s a story starter for you — imagining what she’s been up to the last couple of weeks.

  5. Halleluia! I TOLD you she’d come home! Sounds like she was probably shut up by mistake in someones shed or somewhere. Nina had a cat that was shut up in, they think an old car, during extreme heat. He came home sooooo skinny, dehydrated and weak he could hardly walk. He was a long hair and they had to shave him to cool him off. He was never the same after that.
I’m so glad Tiger is home, she looks so happy to be there!

  6. She’s happy as can be, and already celebrating her favorite things. She’s had drinks of fresh water from the bathtub, and has gone into the basement to howl — which most cats seem to enjoy doing. This morning I cooked up some turkey bacon and she could hardly contain herself. She LOVES turkey bacon. I usually break off some small pieces and toss them out so she can chase them. Except for being really skinny, and the raspy voice, she seems fine.

  7. I’ve been following daily and am thrilled that Tiger finally came home. It’s amazing how attached we get to those independent little devils. We have Otis and Leon at our house and they disappear for sever days at a time, but never 17 days at once. What an adventure. Cats aggravate us, irritate us, and worry us silly, but we still love em. WELCOME HOME TIGER.

  8. The Return of the Prodigal

And on the 16th day of existing in a non-parallel world known to few, unknown to most, and after non-ending battles with the evil twin, who is still hard in the grasp of the Dark Side, Tiger was finally triumphant over her nemesis and survived the near-disastrous situation, which had looked so enticing but had turned into something much much less.

And now, the Prodigal has returned.

Little by little the details of her ordeal, bits and pieces of her adventure, will, no doubt, be forthcoming, but maybe not in ways or language humans will be able to understand. And while that may be frustrating for the humans, the joy of having her back will more than compensate for the lack of knowing what transpired during her absence. In fact, it may well be better not to know too much if anything at all.

Suffice to say Tiger is back where she belongs, with people who love her and want nothing but the best for her.

    The End (or maybe not).

  9. Thank you, one and all, for your support through our cat crisis. Your comments here and in e-mails have been greatly appreciated. It means a lot that y’all were rooting for Tiger to come home. It was nice to have a happy ending to report.

    P.S. Tiger says “Mrow.”

Susie – Leon and Otis? Seems like either you’ve mentioned those names or my brother told me. Otis was my grandpa’s name and also the name of Tutak’s mutt-dog. (Otie)

  10. Delighted for you! I told you she’d be back.

However, if you’re contacted by a certain “Mr Mew-kus” from the south side of town, it might be worth denying any knowledge of Tiger’s whereabouts. Mr Mew-kus has broken many a cat’s delicate heart and it looks as if he’s up to his old tricks again.
