The old monkey house in Peter Pan Park.
Peter Pan Park

"She was a Peter Pan."

Mary White, William Allen White's daughter, was the inspiration for Peter Pan Park. In 1921, Mary was only 16 when she was killed in a horse-riding accident. Her death was the subject of White's best editorial (as far as I'm concerned). A bust of White and that editorial are part of a memorial at Peter Pan Park. However, vandals have left their mark on the memorial, so this photo was taken from across the pond.

Peter Pan Park has a new 18-hole disc golf course. The course has plenty of unforgiving hazards: poison ivy, thick shrubs, a lake, a steep-banked stream, a river.

Also in the park are tennis and horseshoe courts, a ball diamond, picnic shelters, an amphitheater, and a wading pool and playground.

Dave flings a disc at a basket.

"That tree has a lot of music in it," Dave said one evening as we played disc golf. On the right is the amphitheater.
